NLRB Moves to Reinstate Marsh Worker

INDIANAPOLIS — The National Labor Relations Board has asked a court to order Marsh Supermarkets here to reinstate a former employee who the United Food and Commercial Workers said was supporting the union.

INDIANAPOLIS — The National Labor Relations Board has asked a court to order Marsh Supermarkets here to reinstate a former employee who the United Food and Commercial Workers said was supporting the union.

According to the UFCW, the NLRB is also seeking the court to order Marsh to stop certain activities to impede a unionization effort at the chain, such as prohibiting workers from discussing a union on company time.

The NLRB previously filed charges against Marsh in November of last year and again in January, accusing it of interfering with efforts to organize workers at stores in Beech Grove, Ind., and in Indianapolis. Marsh denied those charges.

"Marsh is very proud of the fair and open environment that has been a hallmark of our relationship with our associates for nearly 80 years," said Dave Redden, senior vice president, human resources, Marsh.

In response to the latest NLRB filing, Redden also denied the allegations.

"We have detailed policies outlining appropriate conduct at work and they have been administered consistently and fairly across the company," he said. "The former associate who admittedly violated a basic work rule was fully aware of the consequences of doing so."
