NRF Donations Help Orphans

NEW YORK — More than $320,000 was raised for children at risk through activities at the National Retail Federation (NRF) Conference & Expo here last month, including the distribution of complimentary bottled water.

Show attendees were encouraged to make a $1 donation for each bottle they took, and a dollar-for-dollar match was provided by RPE, Tampa, Fla., a retail consulting firm specializing in merchandising and supply chain solutions, whose clients include Kroger-owned Fred Meyer and H.E. Butt Grocery.

The donation from RPE will support Share The Blessings, an organization providing clean water to children through the construction of village wells in Uganda. RPE is a participant in the Retail Orphan Initiative, a non-profit charitable foundation that was established to help the 400 million orphaned and vulnerable children worldwide.

“This is the second year of the promotion, and our thanks goes to all who generously donated,” said Cliff Epstein, president, RPE, in a statement. “We’re pleased with the recognition the Retail Orphan Initiative is receiving at NRF and in the industry. It’s amazing what $1 can collectively achieve.”
