WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Lowes Foods raised $2,783 last month for local humane societies. For the month of July, 1% of all Paws-brand product sales went to the purchase of products for humane societies in Charlotte, Raleigh, Winston-Salem and Wilmington, N.C.

The promotion follows a similar one in May when another 1% of Paws sales was donated.

Marketed as a national-brand equivalent, Paws Premium is a Topco Associates brand that includes 35 varieties of dry and wet food, as well as treats, toys and accessories.

The retailer has helped pets in other ways. It recently hosted pet adoption fairs at 10 stores in Clemmons, Greensboro, Raleigh, Charlotte and Wilmington, N.C.

Additionally, Lowes donated $2 to local humane societies for each new fan who joined its Facebook page for a one-month period ending June 7. Lowes gained 442 fans during the campaign, generating $884 for humane societies.

To date, more than $6,500 has been raised for humane societies.
