SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Price Chopper Supermarkets last week said it has broken ground on a new store that would be New York's first LEED-certified supermarket. Buildings certified as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) by the U.S. Green Building Council adhere to standards for sustainability and environmental impact. The 69,000-square-foot store in Colonie, near the company's headquarters here, will replace an existing Price Chopper. The chain said it is working with the New York State Energy Research Development Authority on the building, which will serve as a prototype for future Price Chopper locations.
