Price Chopper Plans Mobile, Web Apps

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Price Chopper Supermarkets here plans to launch its first mobile-phone application and an enhanced website based on Mercatus Smart Shopping Technology from Mercatus Technologies, Toronto.

Mercatus announced earlier this month that Price Chopper planned to employ the Smart Shopping Technology platform, including the Concierge web services and Curo content management system, but did not specify how it would be used.

Price Chopper expects to launch the mobile applications prior to the end of its current fiscal year next April, said Greg Zeh, the 128-store chain’s chief information officer. The initial launch of the mobile application will include shopping lists synchronized between the chain’s website and mobile phone, store locations, recipes and other product information. “Our roadmap includes additional features that will meet the demands of our shoppers,” said Zeh.

The Mercatus technology “provides us with the framework to expand the same experiences to kiosk, shopping cart tablets and any other customer digital interaction, “Zeh said. “Our goal is to provide our customers with the services they are looking for on all of their devices, whether mobile, at home, or in store.” He declined to comment on the cost of the project.

Food Lion, Salisbury, N.C., is also using Mercatus technology to power its website and consumer mobile app, said Lucy Trinh, creative director, Mercatus.
