Product Finder App Slated for Safeway

Shoppers of Safeway, Pleasanton, Calif., will be able to use a mobile product location app in 40 stores in the San Francisco Bay area, according to AisleFinder, provider of the app.

MILPITAS, Calif. — Shoppers of Safeway, Pleasanton, Calif., will be able to use a mobile product location app in 40 stores in the San Francisco Bay area beginning Jan. 4, according to AisleFinder here, provider of the app.

Safeway did not respond to a request for comment.

The app, which will be available at AisleFinder's website and downloadable to iPhone and Android phones, gives the number of the aisle in which an item is located. It can also provide shoppers with "a mapped-out shopping list that displays all items on their shopping list and their aisles within the store," said Curtiss Pope, product manager, AisleFinder.

The app also allows shoppers to explore recipes. Last month, a competing service, Aisle411, announced that its free iPhone app, which allows shoppers to find products and access promotions, was available in more than 600 U.S. stores.
