Raley’s Launches New Diabetes Program

Raley's has partnered with a low-glycemic frozen food manufacturer in a new initiative to help people with diabetes.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Raley's has partnered with a low-glycemic frozen food manufacturer in a new initiative to help people with diabetes. Raley’s will provide free classes, resources and healthy products for people living with diabetes. Organic Bistro supplies each class with handouts and coupons for its frozen entrees, available at select Raley's, Bel Air Markets and Nob Hill Foods stores. "With so many nutritious offerings in our natural foods and fresh produce departments, we want to provide customers fighting diabetes with resources and realistic meal solutions, so that achieving a healthy lifestyle is convenient," said Raley's corporate dietitian Earline Griffith in a statement. Developed by a registered dietitian, gourmet chef and naturopathic physician, Organic Bistro Whole Life Meals contain whole grains, lean proteins and at least 3 ounces of vegetables, and are low in sodium. All meals are developed on the principles of low glycemic index and load, which are measures for how quickly foods turn into sugar. Griffith's next class, “Eating Better with Diabetes,” is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m., April 9, at the Raley's store in Placerville, Calif.
