Retailers Get a Jump on Flu Season

PLEASANTON, Calif. — It’s still summer, but retailers are already promoting flu shots.

PLEASANTON, Calif. — It’s still summer, but retailers are already promoting flu shots.

In its official blog, Safeway announced that shoppers get a certificate for 10% off their next grocery purchase if they get their flu shot at a Safeway pharmacy.

“Since you’re already there picking up groceries, why not save yourself a trip and get yourself a professionally administered flu shot, in a hygienic and friendly environment,” Safeway wrote. “Take care of yourself AND save money on groceries too!”

Meanwhile, in an e-newsletter distributed on Aug. 26, Giant Eagle notified shoppers that it’s now offering needle-free flu shots.

“This new technology is great for people who experience anxiety with needles,” according to Giant Eagle.

Instead of a traditional needle injection, the needle-free shot works on a spring power that directs a pressurized stream of liquid medication that penetrates the skin in less than one-third of a second, according to Giant Eagle.

“It's safe, effective and some patients claim to experience less pain with the needle-free shot,” according to Giant Eagle.
