Save-A-Lot Gives Away Free Groceries in Pacific Northwest

The Save-A-Lot division of Supervalu distributed bags of private-label packaged goods for approximately 18,000 meals at its nine Pacific Northwest stores last Saturday as part of a promotion to reward existing customers and attract new ones.

MINNEAPOLIS — The Save-A-Lot division of Supervalu here distributed bags of private-label packaged goods for approximately 18,000 meals at its nine Pacific Northwest stores last Saturday as part of a promotion to reward existing customers and attract new ones.

Shoppers with a voucher — picked up at the stores or online — were given Save-A-Lot eco-totes containing a jar of Pastapali pasta sauce, a box of Del Pinto spaghetti noodles, two cans of Wylwood vegetables and one package of Grissom’s Brown & Serve garlic sticks.

The company had not conducted a similar promotion before but decided to try it in the Pacific Northwest because that is its newest division, with stores open less than three years, Jaime Powers, corporate communications manager for Save-A-Lot, told SN. “Save-A-Lot understands many people are struggling to survive this economic crisis, and this event is a way we can help our customers. Many Northwest residents are going back to the basics, looking to eat healthier and consuming more meals at home, and this event encourages them to have a hot, nutritious meal at home.”
