MODESTO, Calif. — Save Mart Supermarkets here has launched a search for the top cooks ages 9 through 13 in northern California and northern Nevada.
The chain said it will hold a cook-off final for its Save Mart stores Sept. 26 and a cook-off for its Lucky Stores on Sept. 27 at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, Calif. Grand-prize winners will receive a trip for four to Heavenly Ski Resort and also to make an appearance on a local TV show.
To qualify, entrants need to complete a form that includes a recipe for a dessert, main dish or side dish/appetizer. Finalists will shop for their ingredients with a store manager, then have the opportunity to prepare their recipe at the theme park.
Sharon Blakely, the chain’s nutrition supervisor, said celebrating a young person’s talents in the kitchen encourages them to learn about and practice good nutrition.
