CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Ruddick Corp. here, parent of the Harris Teeter supermarket chain, said its shareholders have approved changing the name of the company to Harris Teeter Supermarkets Inc., now that it has sold off its industrial-thread subsidiary.
In a statement following the company’s annual meeting, Ruddick said the vote gives the board the authority to change the name at any time, or to abandon the name change if it so chooses. The change has not yet been implemented.
In other matters, the company’s shareholders also approved the re-election of all 10 directors, and ratified the appointment of KPMG as the company’s accountant for fiscal 2012, which ends Sept. 30. Shareholders also approved the compensation of the executives as described in the company’s proxy statement.
In addition, Ruddick said it increased its quarterly dividend by 1 cent per share, to 14 cents.
