BALTIMORE — Klein's ShopRite has come to an agreement with city officials here on plans to build a 68,000-square-foot supermarket in the Howard Park neighborhood.
The $13.5 million project will be built at the site of a long-shuttered Super Pride grocery store, according to the Baltimore mayor's office. A deal between Klein's and the Baltimore Development Corp. arranged for the city-owned land to be transferred to Klein's for $2 million.
Klein's partnered with UpLift Solutions, the Westville, N.J., non-profit that facilitates supermarket development in underserved communities. UpLift was founded by Jeffery Brown of Brown's SuperStores, which, like Klein's, is a member of the Wakefern Food Corp. cooperative.
The agreement requires various city approvals. If approved, work could begin on the site later this year with a goal of opening in early 2013.
