Starbucks Accepts Mobile Payment

SEATTLE — No wallet? No problem if you have the Starbucks Card Mobile App on your BlackBerry, iPhone or iPod touch, says the specialty coffee retailer.

SEATTLE — No wallet? No problem if you have the Starbucks Card Mobile App on your BlackBerry, iPhone or iPod touch, says the specialty coffee retailer.

Instead of using cash or a physical Starbucks Card, café customers can pay by scanning the Starbucks Card app’s on-screen barcode, Starbucks announced Wednesday. Users link their Starbucks Card to the app by providing their account number during registration. App users can also check their card balance and track “stars” earned toward free beverages through My Starbucks Rewards.

Mobile payment is available in all of Starbucks' U.S. company-owned stores. The launch follows a successful test of the technology in Seattle, Northern California, New York and more than 1,000 Starbucks locations within Target stores.

“Today, one in five Starbucks transactions is made using a Starbucks Card and mobile payment will extend the way our customers experience and use their Starbucks Card,” said Brady Brewer, vice president Starbucks Card and Brand Loyalty, in a statement.
