Tops Exits Photo Processing

Tops Markets will no longer offer film-processing services in its 76 stores as of March 1 due to Eastman Kodak’s decision last year to close its film processing subsidiary, Qualex, in March this year.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Tops Markets will no longer offer film-processing services in its 76 stores as of March 1 due to Eastman Kodak’s decision last year to close its film processing subsidiary, Qualex, in March this year. Last year, Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans Food Markets closed 62 in-store photo-processing departments.

Tops will continue to carry photography products such as film and single-use cameras. A Tops spokeswoman said two locations — one in western New York and one in Rochester — offer digital photo processing. “We are looking into the possibility of digital processing in more of our stores,” she said.

The company said the decision will not result in any job losses.
