CHICAGO — IGA here said Monday Unified Grocers, a Los Angeles-based member-owned cooperative, has been named the 2011 recipient of the IGA USA President's Cup, which goes to the licensed distribution center of the year.

The award is presented annually to a distributor that demonstrates "extraordinary effort in support of its IGA retailers and the IGA brand," the company said.

"IGA's licensed distribution centers play a vital role in providing services far beyond [simply] supplying food," said Mark Batenic, chief executive officer of IGA USA. "They work with retailers to foster the regional connections that make the brand strong and IGA stores the 'preferred place to shop' in communities around the world. Unified Grocers has, over a relatively short period of time, established a strong commitment to the brand in a number of ways."

Unified will be formally presented with the award at a dinner on March 28 during the IGA Global Rally in Vancouver, British Columbia.
