KEASBEY, N.J. — Wakefern Food Corp. here, which operates the ShopRite cooperative, last week reported total combined retail sales of $11.7 billion for the fiscal year that ended Oct. 3, 2009, an increase of about 10.4% over year-ago levels.

Dean Janeway, president and chief operating officer, said the cooperative expanded its customer communications during the past year with such tools as an iPhone app, a social media presence and new features on the ShopRite.com website.

"We also expanded our ShopRite from Home and ShopRite Ship to Home services and have introduced mobile couponing so that we can continue to offer our customers value and convenience," he said.

In 2009, Wakefern also expanded its wholesale services division — through which it supplies non-member companies — and said it expects to add new customers and expand the services it offers in the current year.
