SAN ANTONIO — VICS (the Voluntary Interindustry Commerce Solutions Association) named Danny Wegman, chief executive officer of Wegmans Food Markets, and Timothy P. Smucker, chairman of the board and co-CEO of The J.M. Smucker Co., winners of the Roger Milliken Lifetime Achievement Awards here Tuesday night at the VICS/U Connect Annual Conference. The awards were decided by votes of the VICS board of directors.
The VICS Roger Milliken Lifetime Achievement Award honors the leadership and contributions of an individual who has advanced the CPG/retail industry over his or her career. The award is named after Roger Milliken, a founder of VICS who at 94 remains chairman of his family’s textile firm.
“Tim Smucker and Danny Wegman are two family men, from two family companies where the families still run the business. As important as running their family businesses is to these two leaders, they are also passionate supporters of standards for retailers and CPG companies, each having served as chairman of GS1 and provided vision to the organization for many, many years. The VICS Board of Directors congratulates them, their families and the great companies they lead,” said Joe Andraski, president and CEO of VICS.
VICS also announced the winners of the 2010 VICS Collaborative Commerce Achievement Awards, designed to identify and reward excellence in supply chain collaboration.
The Retail Excellence award was given to Wal-Mart Stores for joining with Schneider National to produce real-time electronic feeds of the transport process, enabling-to-end snapshot of supply chain activity.
Other awards went to Kimberly-Clark (Supply Chain Excellence), Lowe's Companies – Whirlpool Corp. (VICS CPFR Implementation Excellence), Schneider National (Best Third-Party Provider), Levi-Strauss & Co. (Sustainability Excellence) and JCPenney Co. (Empty Miles Top Contributor).
