Wegmans Plans Update of Price Freeze

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets here on Friday told a local newspaper that it would make an announcement after Jan. 1 on the future of a price freeze it put into effect for 2011 on more than 200 grocery SKUs.

"It would be premature to share details, but after the first of the year we will be announcing how we plan to go forward," a spokeswoman for Wegmans told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

In February 2011, as food inflation was gaining steam, Wegmans said it would not increase prices on a range of products, including orange juice, canned coffee, cereal, bananas, red peppers, pasta and sauce, chicken, ground beef, salmon, tilapia, tuna, frozen pizza, frozen vegetables, and deli ham and turkey. Most of the items are Wegmans private label.
