Weis Markets to Launch Fight Hunger Food Drive

Weis Markets will kick off its month-long Fight Hunger Food Drive tomorrow.

SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets here will kick off its month-long Fight Hunger Food Drive tomorrow. The chainwide program will allow shoppers to donate shelf-stable products that are purchased in Weis Markets stores, including its King’s and Mr. Z’s banners, to local food banks and emergency food providers. Each Weis Markets store will have a Fight Hunger shelf display that includes products in greatest demand. The retailer has learned that local food banks most urgently need items like cereal, applesauce, pasta, granola bars, canned fruit, peanut butter and soups. After customers purchase the foods they would like to donate, they can place them in a tan Fight Hunger bag and drop them in a specially marked donation collection cart near the checkout. Donors will be invited to sign an "I Helped Fight Hunger" badge for display in each store's front window. "With our Fight Hunger Food Drive, our associates and customers will have the opportunity to support 11 food banks and the hundreds of emergency food providers they serve,” said David J. Hepfinger, Weis Markets' president and chief operating officer, in a statement. “We will also make monetary donations to each of these food banks at the end of our campaign."
