Food Lion extends trial of MVP Loyalty Rewards

Shoppers in Greensboro can now enroll

Food Lion of Salisbury, N.C., has launched the “Shop & Earn MVP Customer Rewards Program” in the Greensboro, N.C., market.

The initiative will allow shoppers to receive personalized savings on products and categories that they frequently purchase, provided that they hit preset shopping goals.

The rewards are automatically redeemed on the next shopping trip after they are earned.

Shoppers can access and enroll in the program via the grocer’s website or the Food Lion Mobile App. The rewards can be tracked on these platforms as well.

"Through the Shop & Earn MVP Customer Rewards Program, we are offering our customers the opportunity to save an average of $20, or more, each month in our stores in categories they are already shopping in," Deborah Sabo, VP of marketing at Food Lion, said in a release. "The more our customers shop at Food Lion, the more they will save. We believe our customers will find tremendous value through these personalized offers based on their shopping behavior.”

New offers are made at the beginning of each month and customer will have through the end of the month to fulfill rewards requirements. Customers then have until the end of the following month to redeem them.

The initiative was first piloted in the Raleigh, N.C., market earlier this year, and the company is considering making it available at all locations in the future.

Food Lion—which has more than 1,000 stores across 10 states in the Southeast and mid-Atlantic—isn’t the only grocer to launch a loyalty program this week. Ahold Delhaize’s Hannaford brand rolled out a similar initiative on Monday.
