FRESHDIRECT GUARANTEES FRESHNESS
NEW YORK — FreshDirect here has introduced a new label called “Guaranteed Freshness,” which will be affixed to all fresh-made meals, meat, seafood, dairy and produce items. The “Guaranteed Fresh” mark appears on the product pages of thousands of fresh foods on the FreshDirect website, showing customers exactly how many days they'll have to enjoy their food. The freshness days are the minimum number of days the retailer guarantees each product will remain fresh, and with appropriate storage, the products may stay fresh longer. “Our customers trust us to be their eyes in the fresh food and grocery shopping process,” Monica Woo, chief marketing and strategy officer for FreshDirect said in a release. “Each product can be traced back to the cutting board or produce shelf, so we're happy to be held accountable for every order.”
TARGET TOPS GREENPEACE SEAFOOD LIST
WASHINGTON — Greenpeace's seafood sustainability scorecard, its fourth edition, gave a passing grade to half the country's leading supermarkets — the largest number yet. Target, moving up from fourth place, received top ranking this year, pushing Wegmans Food Markets back to second place, while Whole Foods Market maintained third place from its June 2009 ranking. Greenpeace's report, titled “Carting Away the Oceans,” reports that supermarkets have taken greater responsibility in sourcing sustainable seafood. “We are noticing a trend emerging among the largest U.S. seafood retailers,” the report states. “It's becoming clear that several supermarkets — such as Wegmans, Target and Whole Foods — are deeply invested in making better decisions and providing safer, more sustainable seafood options for their customers.
