Pilgrim's Pride recalls 5.2M pounds of chicken products

UPDATE (May 9, 2016) — Pilgrim's Pride Corp. has updated its recall to include an additional 608,764 pounds of fully cooked chicken products, for a total of 5,176,844 pounds of product recalled since April 7. The additional products may contain extraneous metal materials, and were produced from May 6, 2015 to Dec. 3, 2015.

On April 26, Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. recalled 4,568,080 pounds of fully cooked chicken products that could contain extraneous materials such as plastic, wood, rubber and metal, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said.

The recall covers a variety of products produced from Aug. 21, 2014 to March 1, 2016. It expands on an initial recall initiated on April 7 of 40,780 pounds of fully cooked chicken products.

Products were shipped for institutional use nationwide.

FSIS were alerted to potential contamination of the products after receiving numerous consumer complaints. The agency has not confirmed any reports of adverse reactions from eating the products.
