MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A new Publix Supermarket is coming to Myrtle Beach!

Company representatives confirmed that Publix has executed a lease on a new store, to be located at the Village Shops at Grand Dunes, on the southwest corner of 82nd Parkway and Highway 17. The new store is scheduled to open in 2016.

Plans for the Village Shops at Grand Dunes shopping center were announced earlier this year; the 62,000 square foot shopping center will sit off of Kings Highway between 79th Avenue North and 82nd Parkway, which is currently undeveloped land. The store will bring 100 new jobs to Myrtle Beach which will be hired in the month leading up to the store opening.

The grocery store will bring in some healthy competition to grocery stores in the area- just up 82nd Parkway is a Lowes Foods and down Kings Highway is a Food Lion. Visitors in the area said they were glad a new grocery store is on its way because lines are too long in the grocery stores in Myrtle Beach.

Publix most recently opened a new 45,000 square foot store in Pawleys Island back in March.

Last year, the company announced they would also be bringing a store to the Carolina Forest area in 2016. This announcement came days after they opened their first store in the Grand Strand, at the Coastal North Town Center in North Myrtle Beach in November 2014.

Publix ranked at the top of Consumer Reports' annual supermarket survey, alongside Wegmens and Trader Joe's.
