Aldi launches summer discount deals

The announcement comes days after Walmart’s launch of discount private label brand Bettergoods

German discount grocer Aldi is dropping prices on more than 250 products this summer, which it estimates will save its customers $100 million.

The company said in a press release that its targeting “stubbornly high” food prices.

The promotion includes a wide assortment of products such as chia seeds, summer sausage, frozen blueberries, sirloin steak, frozen french fries, and more.

The announcement comes a few days after Walmart launched its discount private label brand Bettergoods, which includes more than 300 grocery items with price points between $2 and $15. Most items on the new brand are under $5, the retail giant said on Tuesday.

Aldi also announced that on Thursday it opened a new location in North Liberty, Iowa. The fast-growing grocer operated 2,372 U.S. locations, as of April 9, according to ScrapeHero.com.
