Dollar General expects to open 900 stores this year on its way to 1,000 a year in 2017, officials say. Capital spending is expected to increase by 14% this year.

Dollar General: Units could double

Dollar General Corp. is on a very aggressive expansion run, targeting up to 13,000 potential sites in the continental U.S. — which would double the number of stores it currently operates.

“While we won’t get all 13,000, it’s our goal to get the lion’s share of them and to get them in areas where first-to-market matters,” CEO Todd J. Vasos told investors earlier this year.
