Ray's Seeks to Spark Viral Promotion

BROOKINGS, Ore. — Ray's Food Place here said it is attempting to create a viral marketing campaign with its latest holiday promotion by encouraging consumers to share the program with friends through social media.

The chain is giving away more than $300,000 in shopping vouchers, gift cards and free groceries to in-store and online users. In addition, it is asking customers to tell their friends about the giveaways — a new wrinkle in the chain's annual holiday promotion.

According to Alan Nidiffer, vice president of C&K Market, Ray's parent company, "Key to the success of this program is how we can engage consumers where they are, not where we want them to be. By reaching out to customers both in-store and online, we are targeting two high-use areas and offering opportunities to win incentives they can use over the holidays inside the store."

From now through Dec. 25, customers who spend at least $25 in a single store visit will have the opportunity to win vouchers worth $1, $5 or $10 off their next order, as well as $25 and $50 Ray's gift cards.

In addition, customers can also go online daily and enter to win free groceries for a month — a $500 value — with five contest winners drawn weekly through Dec. 25.
