Services were held Monday in Canandaigua, N.Y. for Paul Gilbert, a former director of real estate for Wegmans Food Markets who passed away last week after a long battle with cancer.
According to an obituary in The Buffalo News, Gilbert was a member of the Wegmans real estate department for 23 years and was the chain’s director of real estate until 2016. Gilbert helped the company expand from its Upstate New York base, growing from a 44-store chain in the process of making an initial expansion into Pennsylvania to a company that now has twice as many stores spanning a geography of six states.
Wegmans’ 92 stores, Gilbert was responsible for finding 48 of the locations as well as more than a dozen additional stores in Wegmans’ development pipeline.
