Dollars and Cents: Survey of Center Store Performance

“[Dollar stores] move into areas that do not have the big retailers and hurt the small businesses trying to survive in small towns.” —WHOLESALER

Dollar stores are nearly as big of a threat to the center store as Walmart, according to SN’s 12th annual Survey of Center Store Performance.

Twenty percent of all respondents said dollar stores pose the greatest competition to center store.

That's just a slight difference from the 22% who named Walmart as the leading competitor.

Food retailer respondents said dollar stores are hurting the center store because they are devoting more space to food.
