New Save-A-Lot stores highlight fresh offerings

At 13 Save-A-Lot stores opened this year, the retailer has promised a “commitment to bring fresh produce, dairy and meats to their communities.”

Earlier this year, Supervalu CEO Sam Duncan told analysts Save-A-Lot was testing store experiences, particularly in the meat department, that would cater to specific demographic groups. Duncan told investors last fall that Supervalu had invested to improve produce and meat, and Save-A-Lot would work to incorporate meat more into its marketing efforts.

The latest stores span eight states; some are owned by Supervalu while others are licensed locations.
