Consolidation: Southeastern, publicly held conventionals could be next

With Ahold and Delhaize set to join forces, the discussion now moves to the question, “Who’s next?”

Some industry observers are focusing on Southeastern Grocers, the holding company for Winn-Dixie and Bi-Lo, while others see mid-sized publicly held conventional operators like Ingles Markets and Weis Markets as likely targets.

All agree that scale will be the primary driver for further industry consolidation.
