Along with the expansion of Prime member savings, Amazon and Whole Foods Market are pushing ahead with the rollout of same-day grocery delivery via the e-tailer’s Prime Now service.
Amazon and Whole Foods said Prime Now delivery is now available from the supermarket chain’s stores in Chicago, Houston, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and San Antonio.
Through the service, Amazon Prime members can shop thousands of products at Whole Foods — including fresh and organic produce, bakery, dairy, meat and seafood, floral and everyday staples — through PrimeNow.com or the Prime Now app and have their orders delivered to their door in as soon as an hour. A selection of alcohol also is available for delivery to customers in Chicago, Houston, Minneapolis and San Antonio.
Two-hour delivery is free on orders of $35 or more for Prime members, and one-hour delivery costs $7.99. Delivery from Whole Foods via Prime Now is available daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
“We’ve been delighted with the customer response to delivery in as little as an hour through Prime Now, and we’re excited to bring the service to our customers in Chicago, Houston, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and San Antonio,” said Christina Minardi, executive vice president of operations at Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods. “Today’s announcement is another way that we are continuing to expand access to our high-quality products and locally sourced favorites.”
Overall, Prime Now delivery from Whole Foods is now offered in 19 cities. Earlier this month, the companies launched the service in Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia and Richmond, Va.
Seattle-based Amazon, which acquired Whole Foods last August, has said it plans to roll out free two-hour grocery delivery via Prime Now nationwide in 2018. The service was launched at Whole Foods in February and has steadily expanded to more large markets. Other metro areas offering Prime Now delivery from Whole Foods stores include Denver, Sacramento, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, Austin, Cincinnati, Dallas and Virginia Beach.
Starting today, Amazon Prime member savings became available in all Whole Foods Market and Whole Foods Market 365 stores across the country. Through the program, which launched at Whole Foods stores in Florida last month, Prime members can get an extra 10% off sale items and weekly “deep discounts” on certain top-selling items at Whole Foods.
