Hannaford enlists Home Chef as meal kit partner

Meal solutions offered via Hannaford To Go click-and-collect service

Hannaford Supermarkets has begun offering Home Chef meal kits through the Hannaford To Go click-and-collect online grocery service.

The companies said Wednesday that Hannaford customers can order from a selection of three Home Chef meal kits, which change weekly, and pick up them up on the same day at Hannaford To Go locations, currently available at 41 supermarkets in Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont and Massachusetts.

The meal kits pair simple recipes and pre-portioned ingredients from Chicago-based Home Chef with fresh steak, chicken or seafood from Hannaford. Priced at $17.99, the meals can be cooked in about 30 minutes and serve two people.

For instance, choices for this week (April 10-16) include chicken scampi with ciabatta croutons, sesame beef with green beans, and brown sugar salmon. On Hannaford’s web page for the Home Chef meals, each meal also includes recommendations for wine and beer.

"With Home Chef, Hannaford is now offering customers wonderful new meal choices that make it easy and fun to cook dinner with fresh ingredients," Hannaford spokesman Eric Blom said in a statement. "These meal kits are a great fit for Hannaford To Go shoppers, who have busy schedules and appreciate saving time."

Upcoming Home Chef meal kits from Hannaford To Go in April include mesquite chicken with loaded potato wedges, Korean tilapia tacos with slaw and pickled shallots, honey mustard pork tenderloin with rosemary-roasted green beans and shallot, ginger steak and peppers with peanuts and jasmine rice, weeknight chicken quesadillas with Chihuahua cheese and pico de gallo, and marsala mushroom chicken skillet with broccoli and peas.

Overall, Scarborough, Maine-based Hannaford, part of Ahold Delhaize USA, operates 181 stores in the Northeast.

Home Chef, the nation’s largest privately held meal kit delivery company, “prides itself on its approachable meal offerings,” according to chief revenue officer Rich DeNardis.

“We’re happy to be able to make our meals available to more customers through this unique partnership with Hannaford,” DeNardis commented. “We see collaborations like this as the future of the meal kit industry and a key part of breaking down the barriers to trying a meal kit.”

Home Chef, founded in 2013, said it delivers more than 3 million meals across the country each month from its distribution centers in the Chicago, Atlanta and Los Angeles areas.
