PARIS -- An international jury of 27 journalists from food-distribution trade publications gave the highest number of points to Atkins Endulge Ice Cream from Atkins Nutritionals, Ronkonkoma, N.Y., for the best product submitted by the United States in the country classification. In all, nine products were submitted by the United States in the 12 categories of the SIAL D'Or awards competition held here May 27 to 28.

Cecile Bassot, managing director of SIAL, said this year's exhibition will concentrate on seafood and new products in catering. The exhibition also will host a symposium on nutrition and examine obesity in France. SIAL draws some 4,000 exhibitors from 98 countries. Approximately 130,000 people are expected to attend the event.
Journalists selected the Golden SIAL D'Or, the top prize in the SIAL new products competition, from among the products that won in each of the 12 categories. The Golden SIAL D'Or winning product will be announced on Oct. 18 during the trade show.
The members of the jury voted on products from the following categories: dairy products, ice cream and eggs; meat, poultry and delicatessen meats; fish and seafood; confectionery, biscuits and bread; fruit and vegetables; grocery; non-alcoholic beverages; alcoholic beverages; ready to eat; catering; organic; and local and regional products. Besides Atkins Endulge Ice Cream, other United States products presented were Prima Familia premium Italian-style meatballs from Philly Gourmet, Starkist Tuna Creations from Starkist Seafood Co., Jell-O Pudding Bites from Kraft Foods, Del Monte Fruit Naturals from Del Monte Foods, Berry Burst Cheerios Strawberry Banana from General Mills, Raging Cow from Dr Pepper/7Up, Michelob Ultra from Anheuser-Busch, and Steaz Green Tea Soda from The Healthy Beverage Co.
