KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Associated Wholesale Grocers here said it has named Jerry Garland senior vice president and manager of its division here as part of a series of moves designed to strengthen its operations in several markets.
r vice president and manager of AWG's Oklahoma City division is Mike Rand.
Rand was vice president of distribution for the division. Because distribution is his area of expertise, the company said it would not name a successor.
Both Rand and Garland report to Tom Williams, executive vice president of division operations.
AWG's division here is its largest, with sales of $1.2 billion, and its most profitable, company officials told SN. The company's Springfield, Mo., division accounts for sales of about $1.1 billion, and the Oklahoma City division does sales of $650 million, the officials said. In other executive changes:
Terry List has joined the company as vice president of merchandising for the AWG division here. That position had been vacant for two years. List was vice president of grocery merchandising for Bruno's, Birmingham, Ala. In his new post he reports to Garland.
Steve Arnold has been named vice president of merchandising for AWG's Oklahoma City division -- a new position within the division. Arnold, who was grocery merchandiser for the division, reports to Rand.
John Polaschek has succeeded Arnold as grocery merchandiser for the Oklahoma City division. He was AWG's brands merchandiser, a position that has not yet been filled. Polaschek reports to List.
John McCormick has been named executive director of member services for the Oklahoma City division. He succeeds Ron Doyle, who has left the company. McCormick was AWG brands corporate sales manager. In his new position he reports to Rand.
Marc Mullins has been named to succeed McCormick as AWG brands corporate sales manager. He was AWG brands category manager; no successor has been named. In his new post Mullins reports to Tom Watkins, executive director for AWG brands.
Mike Danes was named executive director of member services for AWG's Springfield, Mo., division. That position had been vacant since Don Savley left the company more than a year ago.
Danes was director of retail operations -- a post for which no successor has been named. Danes reports to Maurice Henry, senior vice president and Springfield division manager.
