SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Bel Air Markets opened a greatly enlarged video department in early June to compete with a Hollywood Video specialty store that opened next door, said Rick Ang, director of video operations. The inventory is increasing from 400 rental units to 3,000, said Ang. The new-release and video game categories are the particular focuses in this store, he said. "We are going to key in on new releases in that store. The reason for that is a beautiful new Hollywood Video opened next door," he said. "On a title-by-title basis, we are not capable of competing with them on catalog. So we are going to increase our number of new releases and number of games, and we'll let them take care of the catalog titles. We'll carry some to balance out our selection, but we can't devote the space to it that they do," said Ang.
