Marketing Institute here has named Joanie Taylor chairwoman of the consumer affairs committee.

Taylor is director of consumer affairs for Schnuck Markets, St. Louis. The consumer affairs committee advises FMI on policy and program development. It seeks input from national and local consumer leaders, health, nutrition, and science professionals on consumer and nutritional issues.

Taylor, who joined Schnucks in 1978, also serves on the FMI environmental affairs committee.

Ramminger Set to Leave FDI

FALLS CHURCH, V.A. -- Food Distributors International here has said that Scott Ramminger, vice president for communications and marketing, will be leaving FDI, effective May 22, to become the new President and chief executive officer of the American Wood Preserver's Institute, a trade association representing manufacturers of preservative-treated lumber. A successor is being sought.

Kings Appoints New Senior VP

WEST CALDWELL, N.J. -- Kings Super Markets here has said that Dan Portnoy has joined the company as senior vice president merchandising and marketing.

In this newly-created position Portnoy becomes responsible for the procurement, merchandising, advertising, and marketing of the company. He reports directly to Alan C. Levitan, chief operating officer for Kings.

Most recently, Portnoy worked as senior vice president of Cott Corporation, the world's largest premium retailer branded manufacturer, where he ran the global marketing, product development, corporate communications and retail design subsidiary. He also spent several year with Daymon Associates, a retail brand food marketing organization, and with various supermarket retailers, including American Stores, the A & P, and The Food Emporium.

Kings Super Markets has 22 stores in Northern New Jersey.

Food Lion Names Two Managers

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Filling a spot that remained vacant for over a year, Chris Struzik has been named community affairs manager for Food Lion.

Struzik is responsible for community affairs activities, including cause-related marketing programs, employee fund-raising activities and corporate donations. He has worked at the company for over six years in a variety of capacities, including category management, human resources, and organizational development departments. Most recently, he was assistant category manager. Struzik reports directly to Glenda Kluttz, director of consumer relations.

In other news at Food Lion, John Mercer takes on the position of director of store operations for region two of the southern division. He replaces Dennis Parks, who left the company.

In this position Mercer supervises 73 Food Lion stores in the state of Florida and reports to Dave Morgan, vice president of operations for the southern division. Seven Florida-based store-operations supervisors will report directly to Mercer.

Mercer has worked at Food Lion in various capacities, including store manager, perishable supervisor, merchandising manager and store operations supervisor. Most recently, Mercer worked as a divisional training manager in Virginia.
