Goble Joins Valu Merchandisers
erchandisers has named Jay Goble director of merchandising. He will be responsible for all health and beauty care and general merchandise procurement, advertising, import programs and space management.
Goble was most recently senior vice president, center store and national accounts, at Furr's Supermarkets, Albuquerque, N.M. He reports to Ken Nemeth, vice president of sales and merchandising.
Bob Carlson was appointed to the newly created post of director of nutrition centers. His efforts will be directed toward developing nutrition and health-food departments that will combine health foods with vitamins, herbals, naturals and supplements. Carlson spent several years with Wild Oats, Boulder, Colo., as regional manager, and prior to that worked with Whole Foods Markets, Austin, Texas. He reports to Dick Swain, president of Valu Merchandisers.
Imperial Hires New IS Director
AUBURN, Mass. -- David Kashnow has joined nonfood distributor Imperial Distributors here as director of information systems. He reports to Herbert Daitch, senior vice president of finance, and will focus on developing new information systems and technology as well as expanding the information system staff.
Kashnow will also oversee the purchase and installation of new hardware and software and will coordinate information systems functions related to Imperial's recent acquisition of the Almor Co., Amsterdam, N.Y. Kashnow was most recently director of information systems at Aranex, Bedford, Mass., a maker of computer hardware and software.
NHMA Announces Appointments
ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Housewares Export Council of North America, part of the National Housewares Manufacturers Association here, has elected new officers for 1998-1999. Robert Thomas, regional director, Latin America, for Hamilton Beach/Proctor-Silex, was elected chairman.
Other newly elected officers are Eloise Wenzel, vice president of administration/exports at Sunshine Industries, as vice president, and Sean Daly, export area director at Ekco Housewares, as treasurer.
Elected new directors were Michel Nouafom, export group manager at Libbey Glass, and Don Seale, director of international sales at Bissell, Inc.
Many HECNA activities center around the NHMA's International Housewares Show, which next year will run Jan. 10-13 at McCormick Place, Chicago. HECNA members will host the annual international reception at the show for more than 1,000 international attendees and will have an export information counter at the show's international business center.
