ASDA, Leeds, U.K., said last week it has named Allan Leighton chairman. He succeeds Archie Norman, who will remain an adviser to the company. Norman is also expected to focus on buying other struggling retailers in a new venture, Knutsford, which he set up last week with several other U.K. entrepreneurs. Previously, Leighton was Asda's chief executive. Asda, the U.K.'s third-largest food retailer, was acquired earlier this year by Wal-Mart Stores, Bentonville, Ark.
Topco in 1993 as senior vice president and chief financial officer. In 1997, he was promoted to executive vice president and chief administrative officer and was elected to Topco's board. Topco is a multi-billion dollar food industry cooperative.
