VARNER NAMED INTERIM CFO AT MARSH SUPERMARKETS
id that its chief financial officer, Douglas W. Dougherty, has retired. The company named Mark A. Varner, vice president and corporate controller, to succeed him on an interim basis until a successor is named. Dougherty, who announced his planned retirement earlier this year, agreed to provide Marsh with financial analysis and other services under a consulting agreement. Varner has held various positions at Marsh since 1971 and has been controller since 1999.
PENN TRAFFIC TAPS BREGANDE AS HR CHIEF
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Penn Traffic Co. here said last week it has named Donald R. Bregande as its new vice president, human resources. He succeeds Bernadette Barber, who left the company several months ago. Bregande has spent 29 years in human resource positions, including the last two years with Rite Aid, Camp Hill, Pa.
BJ'S WHOLESALE PROMOTES MCDONOUGH TO CFO
NATICK, Mass. -- BJ's Wholesale Club here said Paul McDonough has been named executive vice president and chief financial officer. He succeeds Frank Forward, who was named to the newly created position of executive vice president and chief administrative officer. They report to Mike Wedge, president and chief executive officer. McDonough and Forward will work together for a transitional period through the closing of the company's year-end financial statements in January 2006, the company said. McDonough, 40, joined BJ's in September 2004, as senior vice president, finance, and before that he was vice president and treasurer of the St. Paul Travelers Cos., St.Paul, Minn. Forward, 50, has been with BJ's since its development stages in the early 1980s and had been CFO since the company's spinoff from Waban in July 1997.
