WAL-MART TAPS FRITO-LAY MARKETING VETERAN
ere said last week it has named Stephen F. Quinn senior vice president, marketing, effective Sept. 12. He currently is chief marketing officer for Frito-Lay North America, Plano, Texas. At Wal-Mart, he will be responsible for marketing strategy, planning, finance, research and brand development. He will report to John Fleming, who in May was promoted to executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Quinn joined Frito-Lay in 1992 after holding previous marketing positions at several other consumer packaged goods companies. He ran the company's Canadian marketing operation until 1996.
WILD OATS TERMINATES BOLSTAD AFTER ONE MONTH
BOULDER, Colo. -- Wild Oats Markets here said it has terminated Daniel Bolstad, senior vice president, operations, after a month on the job. A spokeswoman for the chain told SN last week that Bolstad "violated company policy, and the chairman [Robert Miller] felt he had no choice but to terminate him for cause," though she declined to be more specific. Bolstad, 52, joined Wild Oats on July 25 and was terminated on Thursday of last week. He was formerly senior vice president, operations, for ShopKo Stores, Green Bay, Wis., after spending 27 years at Fred Meyer Stores, Portland, Ore. -- a company at which Miller was the onetime chairman and chief executive officer -- where he ultimately served as senior vice president, operations. Wild Oats said Bruce Bowman, senior vice president, business development has assumed Bolstad's duties on an interim basis.
