WAYNE, N.J. -- Grand Union Co., in at least one store in Woodcliff Lake, N.J., has brought selected in-store bakery products to the entrance.
ng of the traffic pattern. The bakery itself is in the opposite front corner of the store.
On the day SN visited the store, the mobile rack was being used to show off brownies and Boston cream cakes in domed containers. The cream cakes carried a small sticker featuring Grand Union's "Best Take-Out Restaurant in Town" logo. The cakes were $3.99. The brownies, 24 in a package, were $5.99. Store-baked hamburger and hot dog rolls occupied the bottom tray.
Nearby, a dangler sign said, "Fresh at five. As fresh at five in the evening as first thing in the morning."
A bakery associate told SN that trays of French bread are often displayed on the racks late in the afternoon. Asked if the "fresh at five" sign meant the bread was baked late in the day, he said,"No, but it means it's baked fresh every day."
