OMAHA, Neb. -- Services were held here last month for Harold Cooperman, founder of the No Frills grocery chain here and a longtime chairman of the United A-G Cooperative. He died Sept. 20 at age 87. A Polish immigrant, Cooperman opened his first grocery store in 1938, and grew the Harold's Supermarkets chain to eight stores by 1979 before launching No Frills in 1980. He served as chairman of United A-G, a 150-store co-op with sales of about $225 million, from 1971 to 1997. He is survived by his sister, a daughter, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His son-in-law, Richard Juro, is president and chief executive officer of No Frills Supermarkets, which now operates 15 locations.
