NORTHFIELD, Ill. -- Kraft General Foods here will revamp the way it ships products to retailers beginning Jan. 1, when more than 50 plants and distribution centers will join a national pallet-pooling program.

"The program will not only help KGF and its trading partners lower costs by eliminating the inefficient pallet-exchange process, but will result in higher productivity, improved asset utilization, reduced product damage and improved customer service," said Tom Hoeppner, Kraft senior vice president and president of customer support services.

"We want to eliminate additional handling by using Chep pallets on most of the palletized movements into and out of our facilities," he added. Kraft expects to make nearly five million deliveries on the pallets in 1995.
