e Marketing Association here has just released materials to improve produce identification at the front end in order to reduce mis-rings and shrink, and to improve inventory control, checkout speed and productivity.

One of the materials is an updated produce identification guide with standardized PLUs (price look-up units). The guide lists descriptions as well as photos of 350 produce items.

Also available are produce identification posters, one featuring 95 fresh fruits and exotic produce items, another featuring 95 vegetables and herbs. Each photo includes a caption describing the characteristics of the produce item.

Fresh Express Farms Expands Line

SALINAS, Calif. -- Fresh Express Farms here has made two additions to its line of packaged produce.

The company is offering a 1-pound retail pack of baby whole peeled carrots from California.

Also available is a new broccoli coleslaw mix in an 8-ounce or 1-pound package. The coleslaw consists of shredded broccoli stems, carrots and red cabbage. It does not include a dressing.
