AFFI Offers Primary Grade Kits
Frozen Food Institute here has developed a new program designed to teach first, second and third graders about the health benefits of eating frozen foods.
In late August, educational kits for teachers and students will be distributed to 10,000 schools. AFFI estimates that approximately 30,000 first through third grade teachers will receive the kits, with the potential to reach nearly one million students.
Each kit includes a teacher's guide, a full-color poster and four activity sheets. The program's hands-on activities have been created to teach students about the nutritional value, variety and convenience of frozen foods as well as safety precautions for preparation procedures.

Unbaked Bagel Line Added
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Country Home Bakers here has added unbaked frozen bagels to its line of frozen bakery products.
The low-fat bagels come in eight varieties: plain, cinnamon raisin, pumpernickel, whole wheat, blueberry, egg, onion and apple walnut. Country Home's frozen bagels are distributed nationally.
Ice Cream Awards Revamped
WASHINGTON -- The International Ice Cream Association here and Interbake Dairy Ingredients, Richmond, Va., have revamped this year's Ice Cream for America awards competition. The former Golden Cone Awards program, which recognized the best retail merchandising promotions in the ice cream category, has been split into two segments: the Golden Scoop Awards, which will honor the most creative bulk ice cream merchandising and promotional efforts, and the Novelty Excellence Awards, a program that grants awards to retailers who do an outstanding job of promoting and merchandising novelties. Winners for both categories will be honored at International Dairy Foods Association Smart Marketing Conference in March 1997. The deadline for entries is Oct. 1, 1996. Essays to Decide Taster Team
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Dreyer's and Edy's Grand Ice Cream here is hosting a creative essay contest to help select its Trendy Tasters, a group of consumers who will conduct taste tests for new light and fat-free ice cream flavors.
In October, 20 winners will travel to Dreyer's/Edy's manufacturing facility in the San Francisco Bay area where they will indulge in the newest light and fat-free flavors on Trendy Taster Day.
