WOODBRIDGE, N.J. -- Pathmark Stores here recently promoted 25 of its private-label vitamins with a buy-one-get-one-free offer in a Pathmark circular. Advertised savings ranged from $2.99 to $8.99.
A half-page circular ad that ran on Sunday, July 30, in selected East Coast metropolitan and regional newspapers featured a broad range of vitamins and supplements. Stan Sorkin, vice president for public affairs at the 142-store chain, declined to comment on the promotion.
Featured items included vitamin E, 1,000 I.U., softgel supplements, 50-count bottles, two for $8.99; calcium, 600 mg, with vitamin D, 60-count bottles, two for $3.99; stress formula, high-potency tablets, 100-count bottles, two for $8.99, and vitamin C, 500 mg, 100-count bottles, two for $3.79. Also promoted were children's chewable vitamins, including shaped chewables with iron in 100-count bottles, two for $4.59, and chewable alphabet, 100-count bottles, two for $4.39.
The vitamins were sold in banded twin-packs and same-item singles. The promotion was limited to store stock only; no rainchecks were given. According to a Pathmark source, similar promotions have been held in the past. Most have been limited to one-week periods, repeating about every eight weeks, the source said.
