NEWARK, Del. -- The Produce for Better Health Foundation here has named Michael W. Gretz executive director. He succeeds Brian Krieg, who resigned from the foundation last November.

ndation and corporate director of produce for Supervalu, Minneapolis.

Gretz was most recently vice president of marketing and development for The National Easter Seal Society, Chicago, a position he held for two years.

"I'm very excited," Gretz told SN. He said his priorities would be learning the organization and the produce industry.

He said, with a laugh, that his last experience with produce was as a supermarket clerk. He worked part-time for several supermarkets while getting his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana University.

Gretz assumed his responsibilities at the foundation April 1. At press time, he was scheduled to attend part of the foundation's upcoming board meeting April 7, in Monterey, Calif.

Campbell commended Robert Carey, president of the Produce Marketing Association, also based here, who served as interim director of the foundation while the search for a new executive director was underway.

"(Carey) has been instrumental in the positive growth of the foundation has experienced during this time," Campbell said.

The Produce for Better Health Foundation, in cooperation with the National Cancer Institute, sponsors the 5 a Day for Better Health program.
