"Yes, it's kind of a meal, when I get them," said Laurie Fay, at the Shop 'n Save on Central Avenue here. "But usually, I eat fruit, vegetables and soups." Fay said she's been buying frozen snacks, mostly egg rolls and frozen pizza, for about two years.

"A girlfriend of mine buys the pockets," she added. "Young people buy [snacks] because they're easier. You just throw them in the microwave. People want things that are quick and easy."

"I do buy snacks," said Cassie Young, another Shop 'n Save consumer. "I live alone and I pick up snacks because they are easy. I microwave them and eat them like dinner, but I do grocery shopping, too."

SN also spoke with Nicole Brown and her mother, Antoinette Campbell, at the Grand Union in Clifton Park. Brown boldy told SN "All I eat is snacks." Campbell concurred, saying her daughter's boyfriend also "eats nothing but snacks." "People from families who don't cook meals eat snacks," Campbell said when asked who she thought was a typical snack buyer. Campbell and Brown were buying egg rolls and cheese bites.
