ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wegmans Food Markets here and Thriftway Food Stores, Seattle, are among the latest retailers to stake a claim on the World Wide Web.
While the retailer is not yet offering any shop-at-home services on its Web page, except for fruit gift baskets, a company source said a greater variety of products will be available for delivery through the site in the future.
Thriftway, an association of 35 independent retailers, currently has one central Web page (http://www.thriftway.com) and plans by December to develop individual pages for each independent. The central Web site will have links to each store's page.
The association is placing emphasis on produce for its Web site, offering a detailed weekly "market report" where produce merchandise on promotion is listed in great detail.
