SALISBURY, N.C. — The Stone Soul Picnic in Washington, D.C., and the Prince William County Fair in Manassas, Va., are among the stops on Food Lion's new Guiding Stars mobile marketing tour.

Anchored by a specially outfitted 18-wheel tractor-trailer, the “Guiding Stars 3 Star Kitchen” tour will educate customers about the retailer's new Guiding Stars Nutrition Navigation System.

Besides making stops at 12 stores, the exhibit will visit spots in Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Washington through November.

“There will be a strong focus on community events,” Food Lion spokeswoman Karen Peterson told SN.

“We want to reach as many people as possible to share this new way that they can shop more nutritiously.”

Adorned in the Guiding Stars' signature lime green color, the trailer features foods that have different Guiding Star ratings. Food items receive one-, two- or three-star ratings based on their nutritional content.

A registered dietitian will be on board to explain how the system works and to answer nutrition questions.

At each stop, the “Star Sprouts Kid Zone” will provide kid-friendly activities, including coloring books, temporary tattoos and nutritious snacks.

Jackson-Dawson Marketing Solutions in Greenville created the tour for Food Lion.

Guiding Stars launched in the retailer's Food Lion and Bloom stores in June.
